MTN Nigeria has launched, “MTN Topit” for their virtual top-up services in an attempt to get rid of paper vouchers. It was introduced yesterday at their Head Offices in Falomo, Ikoyi.

The Chief Sales and Distribution Officer, Mr Adekunle Adebiyi, explained that the communication company was supporting the Federal Government in the design to rid the environment of pollution. He said the innovation was to revamp the existing product and make electronic recharge easy for subscribers.

“Paper pollution is a major threat we are facing; what we are doing today is to launch Topit and get Nigerians to know more about recharging without the use of paper. What we are doing today is revamping an existing product; we are in the fore-front to give Nigerians a platform as part of our continuous drive to make consumers’ lives easier, brighter and better.

“We believe in a modern connected world; one in which our customers can get solutions at the snap of their fingers; this is what Topit offers our customers, retailers and trade partners,” he said.

Adebiyi explained that Topit also provides efficient means of recharge for data and airtime distribution across diverse forms of electronic recharge. He added that with improved user experience, it mitigates against any perceived priced distortion and eliminates the irregularities associated with recharge PINS, vouchers, and cards.

“With Topit, MTN customers can buy airtime as low as N1 and up to N3 million. It is also beneficial to retail partners and potential new partners as it provides ease of entry to start a recharge business while saving the cost of warehousing and inventory management,” Adebiyi said.

He stated that Topit will help solve the problem of over-scratched card, misplaced or lost cards, long recharge codes to dial, too many codes to remember and environmental degradation.

It is as easy as 456 to be a retailer with Topit. In fact, everyone can be a retailer. Just dial *456# or *904# and follow the commands. No printing of cards required. All that is needed is a working mobile phone.

The company noted that Topit provides an efficient means of recharge for data and airtime distribution across diverse forms of electronic recharge. “With improved user experience, it mitigates against any perceived price distortions and eliminates the irregularities associated with recharge PINs/Vouchers/and cards.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced a new policy on cash-based transactions which stipulates a cash handling charge on daily cash withdrawals that exceed N500,000 for Individuals and N3,000,000 for Corporate bodies.

The new policy take effect from Wednesday the 1st of April, 2020. This comes as an addition to the already existing charges on the cash deposit.

It means, when you withdraw cash over 500,000 Naira from any of your commercial Bank, you will be charged as stated below:
  • For an individual account, withdrawals over 500,000 Naira will be charged a processing fee of 3%, while 2% will be charged for lodgement.
  • For cooperate Account, withdrawals of over 3,000,000 Naira will be charged a processing fee of 5%, while 3% will be for lodgement.
Under the cashless policy, CBN says the payment of deposit/withdrawal charge is a choice by individuals and businesses. The bank said there are other options to receive and pay out money above the limits without having to pay any charge.

The new policy on cash-based transactions (withdrawals) in banks, aims at reducing (NOT ELIMINATING) the amount of physical cash (coins and notes) circulating in the economy and encouraging more electronic-based transactions (payments for goods, services, transfers, etc.)

These new policies have brought about the divergent views across the country.

Do you think this policy was necessary or you think the fees are too much?

Google Assistant Can Now Read Web Pages Out Loud to You

Just a few weeks back at CES, Google gave a sneak peek of a feature that would let your Android devices read entire web pages out loud to you — ideal for when you don’t have a hand free to scroll but still need to catch up on some text, or for when you just don’t feel like looking at your screen anymore.

Google is beginning to roll it out. The new feature is available to Google Assistant, and anyone using Android smartphone running Android Lollipop or higher can use Read It on any web page.

The new feature can translate text in 42 languages automatically. That means if the article is written in English but you want to hear it in Hindi, Assistant will take care of that for you.

How to Make it work
  • Open up your web browser and navigate to a page you’d like to hear read out loud.
  • With the article on your screen, activate Google Assistant by saying “Hey Google” or however you usually start voice commands.
  • Issue the command, “Hey Google, read it” or “Hey Google, read this page.”
  • Google Assistant will then read the entire page out loud, auto-scrolling the page and highlighting words as it goes.
  • To o skip to a different section, tap the screen to move forward. Or if you’re the kind of person who listens to podcasts at two times the speed, you can also adjust Google Assistant’s reading pace for faster or slower cadences.
As I said earlier, the feature will also launch with live translation for 42 languages that will translate the webpage to your preferred language then read that aloud as well. While it’ll certainly be useful for those who may have difficulty seeing or reading on a small screen, this also seems like a much better solution to asking Google Assistant for a cooking recipe, then having to repeatedly say “Next!” to continue each step.

The feature is rolling out now, so if you don’t have it enabled on your Android device just yet, keep checking back.

Let's hear if you are already using this via the comment box.

6 Reasons Why Your Smartphone Running Slow and How To Make It Faster

$

Let’s say you went to an online e-commerce store or phone physical shop, bought a brand new smartphone, you began putting it to some good use, it was super fast and responsive, you were happy with your purchase, and you loved and cherished your smartphone, more than anything else.

As time went on, let say something like a year and a couple of months, you begin to notice some slight slowness and hiccups here and there, it wasn’t that much of a problem, so you gave it less thought.

But as more time went by, and the more you keep making use of it, you noticed that it was now getting a little bit more serious, apps now seem like they are taking a little bit longer than usual to open, and even sometimes, apps that do stay open in the background for as long as you’d wanted, could not even last up to say, 20 minutes any longer, still you thought it wasn’t an issue that needs to be addressed, so you let it skip too.

And then finally, with more time, your phone begins to procrastinate and hang, apps begin to close unexpectedly by themselves, sometimes your phone just restarts by itself, and many more worrisome problems begin to show up, and that is the time you felt like something really has to be done about it.

You try the good old “Tech first aid” method of factory resetting the smartphone, after you’ve done that, the phone begins to run a lot more smoothly than before, and you think it all ends there, but after a couple of days again, it starts acting up all over.

At some point you might even take it to a repair shop, they’d collect your money and do nothing for you, most of the time, they end up damaging the phone’s both internal and external parts while trying to disassemble it, thereby making you lose your warranty, that is if you’ve not lost it before then.

And finally, you are left with nothing but a problem phone, that leaves you with two options, either to go buy a new one which will as well end up the same way as this one, or continue using it while facing new versions of problems and frustration daily.

Well, not to worry, cause the thing is, you’re not the only one who’s having these issues on their smartphones, as it happens to everyone, and not just everyone this time, but anyone who is making use of any electronic gadget, the reason is because, everything is sentenced to the laws of depreciation & devaluation, meaning that they tend to wear, tear, and eventually break down with time, even humans.

Today, we’ll be discussing with you, some of the reasons why our smartphones pass through this phase during their lifetime, and some of the habits we can learn, in order to alleviate these problems.

Reasons Why Smartphones Running Slow and How To Make Them Faster

1. Too Many Apps Installed
Alright, this is one of the most basic factors that might lead to your phone running slow. When you have too many apps installed on your phone, it automatically leads to many apps and processes running in the background, of which you might not even be aware of.

As a result, your RAM gets filled up, your processor begins to overwork itself, and finally problem sets in, in form of procrastinating and sometimes freezing. This is what to do.

Solution
  • Try uninstalling unused and duplicate apps that you don’t make use of. Duplicate apps are when you have things like two different web browsers installed on one phone. Say something like Google Chrome, Web and UC Browser, Mozilla Firefox, Opera Mini, and the rest.
  • Secondly, even if you must have these apps installed in your device may be for specific features which are in one, and not on the other one, try to freeze or disable the ones which are not being used at the moment, it will help give your RAM some breathing space to focus on the ones which are currently being used. For any Infinix user using any of the Infinix phones running on any version of XOS, whether Chameleon or Hummingbird, your phone should probably have a pre-installed app freezer in it
  • And for those of us whose devices don’t come with a pre-installed app freezer, you can disable unused apps by going to your device settings>> Apps Manager, click on any app you wish to disable and select “Disable

2. Too Many Temporary And Junk Files Found In Your Device’s Storage
Now what are temporary files, these are simply files that were generated during runtime, they come as cache and log files from web browsers, the remains of uninstalled apps which were not completely uninstalled, gallery cache, duplicate files and much more.

So you see, these files can be generated from anywhere, and there’s absolutely nothing you can do to stop them from being generated. But the only thing you can do to help your device is; to clean up these files at intervals, maybe once every 3 days, or twice per week.

Solution
Nowadays, most devices come with an already pre-installed System Cleaner in them, that can be used to fish out these files (because they are hidden most of the time) and delete them.

For those using any Infinix smartphone that is running on any version of XOS, whether Hummingbird, Chameleon, or even the new XOS 5 Cheetah, they come with a pre-installed tool called XManager (now renamed Phone Master), that helps clean up junk files from your device, and as well get a many other things done to improve your device’s performance.

So for others, look into your device’s pre-installed apps, there should be something similar there, but if for some reason you can’t find one, I recommend you download the Du Speed Booster App from Google Play Store, it also gets the job done too.

3. Your Phone’s Storage Is Full
Now, because you refused to clean up temporary files from your device, they keep on accumulating, little by little, and before you know it, they automatically grow into large files that eat up a larger part of your device’s storage.

And when they do this, what happens, the necessary apps which require more storage space to function properly don’t get the space they need, and that is when you begin getting warnings like “Unfortunately, Facebook has stopped unexpectedly“

Solution
  • Now in order to avoid this, just follow the same steps listed above. Clear your temporary and junk files regularly, delete unnecessarily large files, some people like keeping movies on their phones even after they watched it a hundred times, either delete those movies or move them to external storage, say something like a micro-SD card, or to a PC if you have one.
  • Uninstall any app that you don’t have plans of using, some people have this attitude when they collect someone’s phone to transfer a few nice apps to themselves, they end up collecting both the ones they know they are not gonna make use of, thereby wasting a good chunk of space and which is a very bad practice.
4. Installed Apps That Contains Bugs
Not every app you see in the play store or anywhere is safe, though they might appear safe, and might not really cause some serious harm to your device, but there’s always a “but”.

Some apps can wake up your camera at any time they feel like, some apps when given device administration permission, can lock and unlock your device whenever they feel like, and even restart it, while some are just pure virus apps that were built to kill your device…

So be careful of what you are downloading from the internet, and be careful of the device you are transferring apps and files from. These are the basic precautions you should take.

Solution
  • Number one, be careful of what you download from Google Play Store, any app which Google says is harmful should not be downloaded, and if you have it already installed before, uninstall it now.
  • Secondly, you can set up Google Play Protect to regularly check your device at intervals for potentially harmful apps, so that you can delete them. (Google Play Protect is found in Google Play Store).
  • And then lastly, be careful of the kind of permissions some apps requests from you, and be mindful of how you grant them those permissions. For example, a third-party camera app or photo editing app shouldn’t be asking for permission to read your phone’s contact and messages. So in simple points, only grant apps the necessary permissions.
5. Your Phone Is Being Attacked By Unknown Virus
In the cause of downloading apps from unknown sources, downloading kind of music, videos, pictures, and browsing the web daily, it is inevitable for your phone to contact some unknown virus, especially when you don’t have a genuine anti-virus app installed.

Some of which might not pose a serious problem, while some can result in more fatal damages like corrupting your files, thereby making them useless, or even completely erasing them.

Solution
  • Make sure to have a genuine anti-virus app installed on your device, to warn you against harmful files before downloading them. There are some really good antivirus app out there on the Google Play Store, like.. Avast, Norton, and Kaspersky.
  • Secondly, if you’re already beginning to notice some things that might seem like virus activities, please make sure to confirm if it is true, and take the necessary steps to clear it off before it results in more harmful problems.
6. Your Phone Has Too Little RAM
Now for those of us using low-end budget phones that are running on 1GB or 2GB of RAM, we can’t stop our phones from procrastinating and freezing especially when there are a lot of apps installed, and here’s what to do about this problem.

Solution
  • Uninstall unused and duplicate apps.
  • Clean your storage and clear cache as often as possible.
  • Download the Lite version of apps instead of the heavy, more storage requiring counterparts. Many apps such as Facebook, Gmail, YouTube, etc, have their various respective Lite versions.

NCC Cuts Off 2.2 Million Improperly registered SIM Cards

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has completely cut off 2.2 million improperly-registered Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards across Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in Nigeria.
The commission made this known through its Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta. Danbatta, at the weekend in Abuja, said the action was a sequel to a ministerial directive that the NCC should compel service providers to block all improperly-registered SIM cards, pending when their owners regularize their registration.

The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) recalled that prior to the directive, NCC Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Team had reduced the number of questionable SIM cards in the country to 9.2 million.

He stated that the deactivation was contrary to reports by a section of the media “suggesting that nothing has been done with respect to the issue of improperly-registered SIM cards”.

Danbatta assured that the NCC will continue to aggressively pursue the national objectives of delivering an accurate database of telephone subscribers in Nigeria.

He stated that the SIM data submitted to the Commission is constantly being validated for higher efficiency to support the national security objectives of the SIM registration exercise through NCC’s zero tolerance for deviations from the proper registration process.

Danbatta restated NCC’s commitment to the periodic SIM data audit, continuous compliance monitoring exercise on the MNOs, as well as constant consumer education and engagement against using improperly-registered SIM cards.

The EVC restated its resolve to partner with stakeholders to address national security concerns, especially kidnappings, banditry, armed robberies, cattle rustling and other crimes associated with SIM cards across and to ensure that same are traceable to their real owners.

Note that if your SIM card failed to come up with the network coverage, possibly, it might be among the 2.2 million improperly registered SIM Cards which have been deactivated.

Most of the smartphones accompany with biometric security of some sort these days, yet the equivalent can't be said of Windows PCs. While fingerprint scanners are becoming increasingly common with laptops and desktops, they're nowhere near-universal. Fortunately, your Android phone's scanner can be utilized as a kind of remote validation point for your PC.

Though the security of biometrics is questionable, you can't deny the fact that scanning a fingerprint is easier than typing a secure password.

Remote Fingerprint Unlock supports the following device configurations:
  • x86 or x64 architectures
  • Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 10 PCs
  • Android 6.0+
The free features include:
  • Support for remotely unlocking both local and online Microsoft accounts via fingerprint scanner
  • Set up 1 PC with 1 account for remote unlocking
  • Wi-Fi Tethering support
The pro features ($1.99 in-app purchase) include:
  • No advertisements
  • Adding multiple Windows PCs
  • Adding multiple accounts per Windows PC
  • Support Wake-on-LAN
How to setup Remote Fingerprint Unlock
Setting up Remote Fingerprint Unlock is fairly simple. All you need to do is download the Android app, install the Windows Fingerprint Credential Module, and go through the setup process in the app.
  • Download and install Remote Fingerprint Unlock from the Google Play Store.
  • Download and install the right Windows Fingerprint Credential Module for your Windows PC. (Be sure to read the setup instructions and warning thoroughly.)
  • Open the Android app and go to the Scan section.
  • Start the Scan operation and let it find your Windows PC.
  • Tap on the PC you want to set up. You can choose to give it a name and/or send a Wake-on-LAN packet if you have the pro version.
  • After adding the PC, go to the Accounts section.
  • Tap on “Add Account.” Enter the username and password of the account you want to remotely unlock.
  • After you add the account you want to unlock on the PC, tap on the account name so that a (Selected) shows up after the name (see the last screenshot.) If you don’t do this, you’ll get an error message saying something like “no default account has been selected.”
  • Now, try unlocking your PC. Lock your Windows PC and you should see a new user called “Fingerprint Unlock.” (See the feature image at the top of this article.) If it says the module is active, then you are able to proceed.
  • Open Remote Fingerprint Unlock and go to the Unlock section
  • Scan your fingerprint.
  • If you set it up properly, you should see your Windows PC automatically unlock itself!
Alright guys, that is just about “PC fingerprint lock”. Do show us some love by sharing this post if you enjoyed it.

How to Discover Who’s Tracking You Through Your Smartphone

$
0
0
Safety should always be our top priority. With the help of just a few shortcodes, you can find out more about the settings of your phone and work out whether or not your messages and information are protected and whether you’re being tracked.

Privacy is important, even the security agent has any right to track your data/call/sms except in situations where you become a threat to society.

We have assembled some of the most useful and important codes for smartphones all in one article, together with some instructions for those who’re worried about being tracked.

*#21#
With this code, you can find out whether your calls, messages and other data are being diverted. The status of the different types of diversions that are taking place along with the number the information is being transferred to will be displayed on your phone’s screen. This function is most often set up by either jealous partners or parents who are trying to protect their kids from spam or criminals. Elderly people often become victims of this practice when they lend their phone to a stranger making a single call. If they do so, they risk having information about where they live, who their friends and family are, their habits and daily activities, and even their financial circumstances passed on to criminals.

*#62#
Dial this code if you want to find out where calls, messages, and data are being redirected to if it seems that no one can get through to you. The chances are in this case that your voice calls are being redirected to one of your cell phone operator’s numbers.

##002#
This is a universal code for switching off all forms of redirection away from your phone. It’s a good idea to use this before you have to use roaming. In this case, money won’t be taken from your account for calls that are redirected by default to your voice mail.

*#06#
With the help of this code, you can find out your IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identifier). If you know this number, you can find your phone if someone steals it. When switched on, its location is automatically conveyed to the network operator even if a different SIM card is inserted. If someone knows your IMEI number, they can find out the model and technical characteristics of your phone.

The James Bond Code
Special codes exist that allow someone to track your location and also to determine whether someone is following you. For this, you need the utility net monitor. Type in one of the following codes:

For iPhone: *3001#12345#*
For Android: *#*#4636#*#* or *#*#197328640#*#*

  1. Go to the section called UMTS Cell Environment, then UMTS RR info, and write down all the numbers under Cell ID. These numbers are the basic stations located nearby. Your phone will connect by default to the one that emits the best signal.
  2. Go back to the main menu, and click on the MM info tab, then on Serving PLMN. Write down the numbers under the Local Area Code (LAC).
  3. With the help of these two numbers and an ordinary website (the fourth tab to the left), you can determine the location on the map of the basic station that your phone is connected to.

The ones to be suspicious of are mobile basic stations — this could be a truck or small bus with a large antenna. These kinds of vehicles are used at rock festivals and in places where Internet coverage is poor. If there’s one of them nearby, seemingly without any logical reason, it’s just possible that someone is engaged in spying.

Use Anti-Virus Software
If you use Android, you should periodically check your phone for viruses. PlaceRaider is one of the most dangerous ones that can infect your device. Developed by American experts, it was meant to show how vulnerable our devices are. Once it gets onto a phone, this Trojan takes a series of photographs of the surrounding area, creates a 3D model of the building you’re in, and then takes advantage of any Internet connection to send the data that it’s gathered, adding along with it all the data on the phone and your passwords.

How do the secret services listen in?
National Security Agencies in virtually all countries now cooperate with cell phone operators, who often provide the former with access to information on any of their customers provided they have a warrant from a court. As a minimum, they provide data from the last three months.

If your phone has been tapped by a security agency, the chances are you won’t even notice. If a phone makes odd noises during a conversation, loses battery power rapidly, overheats, or unexpectedly restarts, this is merely an indication that you need to get it repaired rather than a telltale sign that you’re being listened to.

People generally don’t reveal all that much in phone conversations, so from the point of view of those who want to listen in, it’s much more worthwhile to set up special devices ("bugs") in someone’s home. Radio wave detectors can be used to work out whether such bugs are present in a building.

How can you protect yourself from criminals and spies?
Use messaging apps that are completely closed to outsiders, such as Telegram, Chare, Wickr, Viber, Voxer or Signal.

Determine what information it’s safe to make accessible to all. Should everyone really be able to find out your phone number or have access to information about your family, loved ones, or your lifestyle? Be very careful when posting photographs of children.

Don’t install unknown programs on your phone, keep close track of the apps you have installed, and use multiple security locks wherever you can. Don’t click on unsafe links, and don’t connect your phone to suspicious "free" charging points.

Only your cell phone operator should ever offer you tracking services, and they should only turn them on with your explicit agreement. Websites and applications that offer to find out the location of other people are almost certainly acting with criminal intent. Be careful!

Here are What Causes your iPhone or Android Phone to Get Hot and How to Fix it

$

If your smartphone is getting hot or overheating, there are a number of likely causes. Whether you're using an iPhone or an Android device, find out what's making your phone get so hot, how to fix the problem, and how to stop it from happening again

Shelaf is here to help you super sleuth your way to the bottom of this hot topic (couldn’t help myself). Note that this doesn’t include your phone getting warm from time to time, which is completely normal; it is an electronic device after all, and electronic devices work via the movement of electricity, which creates heat — simple physics. But if your phone is regularly turning up the heat to the point where it’s uncomfortable to hold, there could be a more serious problem going on that could ultimately speed up your phone’s aging process.

Where is the heat coming from?

When phone temperature rises, the most probable culprits are either the battery, processor, or screen. Each of these components can generate heat; chemicals inside your phone’s battery create electricity, the processor transfers information at high speeds (like a computer), and your phone’s screen emits light. So how can you pinpoint what’s causing the problem? While not an exact science, you can make an educated guess about why your iPhone or Android phone is heating up based on where the heat is coming from.

Back of the phone

If the back of your phone is getting hot, the problem may be an overheating battery. Most modern mobile phones use Li-Ion (lithium-ion) batteries that, despite their size, pack a powerful punch. Li-Ion batteries are generally safe, but malfunctions do sometimes occur, as seen with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 battery explosions. A hot battery could also be a sign that it needs to be replaced.

Bottom of the phone

See if the bottom of the phone gets hot when charging — if so, the problem might be with the charger. Whether you use an iPhone or Android, the most reliable charger will be from your phone’s manufacturer. But, contrary to popular belief, third-party chargers are also fine as long as they’re from a reputable source.

Above the battery, by the speaker, or the screen

If you notice your phone is getting hot somewhere besides the battery or the bottom where it connects to the charger, then explore other possible causes that could be either related to the phone itself, or to external factors.

Hot vs. Warm — what’s the difference?

Now before you start jamming a thermometer into your phone’s charging port, understand that a ‘warm’ phone is not the same as a ‘hot’ phone. Generally, a phone’s internal temperature can reach 37-43 degrees Celsius (98.6-109.4 degrees Fahrenheit) and still be considered normal.

If you’re using an Android phone, you can install the nifty AIDA64 app, which will give you a ton of information about your phone’s hardware and software, including a temperature report. While Apple has expanded the information you can see in the “Battery Health” menu in its latest iOS 12.3 update, this does not include a temperature reading. However, since we’ve already established that some phone heat is normal, it’s better to determine overheating based on how often you notice your phone getting hot, or if the temperature is physically uncomfortable. Your phone should not be getting hot several times a day or for seemingly no reason.

Causes of phone overheating

There are several, totally normal (and harmless) reasons why your phone may need to use more power than usual, causing it to warm up a bit. These include:

1. Gaming for long periods of time
If you haven’t found yourself hours deep into a Candy Crush or Snake vs. Block marathon, then you’re either lying or you’ve somehow never had to take public transit. The sheer breadth of available mobile app games is arguably one of the top reasons for buying a smartphone. However, high-intensity gaming apps use your phone’s central processing cores in addition to the graphics processing unit, which can make your phone warm up.

2. Streaming content
Similar to the gaming scenario, watching YouTube or Netflix for hours via your Android or iPhone is another surefire (get it?) way to overwork your phone’s processor, as it has to load the video data and keep the display active for a prolonged period of time.

3. Your settings aren’t optimal
Your phone’s settings also impact how much energy it’s using. Screen brightness on full blast? Animated wallpaper? Widgets, widgets everywhere? Consider turning off (or down, in the case of screen brightness) unnecessary settings to lighten the load on your phone’s CPU.

Other reasons may not be related to your phone’s normal processes, but are still relatively easy to fix:

4. Environmental factors
Prepare to have your mind blown, but leaving your phone sitting outside in the sun or in your car on a hot day can cause it to overheat (*GASP*). This will also prevent the touchscreen from working properly and cause the battery to drain faster. In addition to sun and heat exposure, water damage can also be a possible cause of phone overheating.

5. App updates
If an app has a bug or other problem, it may cause your phone to overheat by overusing your device’s processor. Keeping your apps updated is important because updates often include bug fixes.

6. Software updates
Rarely, a phone may overheat either after an update, or because there was a bug in the OS that required fixing through the update.

When there’s a bigger problem

While there are many plausible explanations for why your phone is getting hot in here, it’s better not to assume the problem is an easy fix. An overheating phone can also be a sign that your phone is infected with malware. Malware often consumes a ton of your phone’s ram and CPU power, which causes the phone to overheat. Some types of malware are even capable of physically damaging your phone.

How to cool your phone down

For a quick fix, first try removing your phone’s case. While the case itself should not be causing your phone to overheat, it might be trapping heat. Removing it can help lower your phone’s temperature more quickly. Next, turn on airplane mode to quickly deactivate battery draining features like wireless radio, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi or cellular signal search. This isn’t the most practical option, but it can be a quick way to help cool your phone down if it’s overheating.

Also, NEVER put your phone in the fridge or freezer. While this may sound like the logical counter-response to leaving your phone in a hot environment, exposing your phone to extreme temperatures or moisture can cause irreparable damage. A better option (though admittedly limited in effectiveness) is to blow on or fan it. Both iPhones and Androids are designed to function between 0-35 degrees Celsius (32-95 Fahrenheit), but exposure to temperatures outside of that range can have a negative impact on your phone’s performance or hardware. If your phone is overheating because of direct sunlight or heat, you can move it to a shadier place.

In addition to the tips mentioned above, here are some other things you can do to help your phone cool off:

Use less power — Low Power Mode on iPhone and Battery Saver Mode on Android reduces the amount of power your phone is using, and can also help preserve your phone’s battery life.
Install junk cleaning software — Another useful way to minimize the drain on your phone’s battery and processor power. Cleaner apps, like AVG Cleaner, make it easy to clean out junk files, identify apps that are slowing down your phone’s performance, and remove useless pre-installed apps to help improve your phone’s performance and extend its battery life.

Dim your screen brightness — Keeping the screen at a reasonable brightness (not full blast) will take some strain off your phone’s battery (and your eyes).
Turn off Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth — Disabling battery-draining features such as these gives your phone a break, allowing it to cool down.

Restart your phone — Occasionally restarting your phone can help prevent overheating due to minor software problems.

How to prevent your phone from overheating

Prevention is often better than a cure, even when it comes to an overheating phone. Developing some basic phone-care habits can really make a difference when it comes to prolonging your phone’s life, or avoiding having to completely replace it.

Charge your phone correctly
We already mentioned using a reputable charger, but where you place your phone while it’s charging is also important. Put it on a hard surface that won’t conduct heat; not your couch or bed, both of which will retain the heat produced by charging. And while we’re on the subject, a quick myth bust: charging your phone overnight actually ISN'T bad for your battery. The truth is that smartphones have protection chips to make sure a battery stops charging at 100%. Although it will charge again once the battery drops to 99%, you won’t harm the battery as long as you maintain proper charging placement.

Update your apps
If you notice your phone has started heating up for no apparent reason, try looking at some of the apps you’ve recently installed. It’s possible that one or more of them may have a bug that’s causing your phone to overheat. Updating apps usually fixes this kind of problem; if not, try uninstalling the app to determine if it’s the reason your phone is overheating.

Avoid direct sunlight
This seems like a “duh” piece of advice, but it can be quite easy to forget about your phone when you’re outside soaking up the sun. Cover your phone with a blanket or something similar to prevent it from overheating — you may need to work on your tan, but your phone definitely doesn’t.

Use an antivirus (Android)
We really can’t stress enough how important it is to use antivirus software on your Android phone. Overheating aside, getting malware on your phone is going to give you a huge headache at the very least. At the most, it could leak your sensitive information, steal your banking details, hold your personal files hostage, spy on your physical location, drain your battery — the list goes on, but the bottom line has not been dumb with your smartphone. Make sure to use an antivirus.

How to Enable Missing Hibernate Mode in Windows 8, 8.1, and Windows 10 Power Menu

$

There is one common issue on Windows 8, 8.1, and the new windows 10. The "Hibernate" option is disabled in the power menu. The power menu doesn't show Hibernate Option. It contains Sleep, Shutdown and Restart options only as shown in the following screenshot:

Many windows 8/8.1 and 10 users are not aware that Hibernation Option is available in Windows 8/8.1 and 10 because the option is hidden (Microsoft simply disabled it).
The Hibernate Option can be added back to power menu. To get the missing hibernate option back in Windows 8/8.1 and 10, just follow the simple steps below:

1. Windows 8 and 8.1 users. Press Windows + W key to open the settings search menu. Then search for Power Options and select.
2. Windows 10 users. Locate Search the web and Windows under system tray. Use it to search for Power Options and select.
2. At the left side, click on Choose what the power buttons do option, and a dialogue box would appear, then select Change settings that are currently unavailable option.
3. Now, scroll down to the Shutdown Settings and you'll notice that "Hibernate" option is unchecked.
4. Check Hibernate box, then apply Save Changes.
That is it. The hibernation mode of your system will enable immediately and no more hidden in your Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10. So whenever you want to hibernate your System, simply press "Alt+F4" keys together as usual and you should see Hibernate Mode in the list displayed or move the Cursor to the upper-right corner of your Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 Screen on your System, then click on Settings => Power Option and you should see hibernation mode in the list as it shows in the screenshot below:

Also Note: As you can see in the screenshot given in step 2, using the same screen you can remove "Lock" option which is shown when you click on your account picture at Start Screen or you can remove "Sleep" option from the power menu.
